Unique and exciting, “Masaya Volcano by night” offers a magical experience through its incomparable activities. We begin our memorable experience by arriving at the Masaya Volcano National Park late in the afternoon where we will have the opportunity to admire one of the most active volcanoes in Central America. A surprising natural wonder is the fact that “green pacific parakeets” or “chocoyos coludos”, as they are popularly known, can be observed flying into the crevices of the steaming Santiago’s crater.
Then we will hike to the highest peak in Masaya National Park where we will be able to see Lake Masaya, San Fernando and San Juan crater, the surrounding landscape and the non-stop gas releasing from Santiago crater.
Our exciting adventure continues with the visit of the “bat caves”, which are lava tubes where thousands of bats, mainly feeding from insects, fruits and nectar, live inside and everyday at nightfall are ready to abandon their dwelling. Interesting geological formations, tangled roots, ceremonial grounds and legends are all part of this fascinating experience.
If gas emanation is not that intense we can be lucky and observe the incandescence of the boiling magma from one of the inner craters. Definitely “Masaya Volcano by night” is a once in a lifetime adventure.
